This project explores the interaction between civic and residential program, combining a public library and 90 private housing units. As opposed to a typical organization of public program at the ground floor with private housing stacked above, we explore a “sandwich model.” The housing block is cracked open and the library is inserted in the middle. This heightens the interface between the resident and the library visitor and allows for both literal and visual communication.
