Bike & Kayak Center

Studio I, Fall 2016

Faculty: David Lewis

When a view is limited, something new is revealed. The idea of framing views and it’s relationship to movement was explored through this project. Three circulation corridors connect the user to each of the programmatic elements in this bike and kayak hub. Each one deliberately frames a view and draws the visitor towards the destination. For example, as the visitor descends towards the kayak rental, a view of the tide and the kayaks on the Hudson River is revealed. This view changes with the change in tide and as the visitor alters his or her elevation and positioning along the corridor.
