Brew Town

Integrated Studio, Spring 2018

Faculty: David Lewis

Sited on Governors Island, one of the few places in NYC that has more ground than figure, this project fragments the program of the brewery and beerhall and creates several small buildings scattered throughout the waterfront site. The visitors can enjoy the experience of weaving through the landscape, as well as that of each object-like wooden structure. The brewing process, rising sea level, structural requirements of glulam, and the rain screen system were all carefully considered. This project culminates with the development of a set of construction documents. Consistency of the thesis was important; the concepts were carried through all design phases, including the design of typical details.
